
The MFAA is committed to enhancing and promoting the professionalisation of the mortgage and finance broking industry.
1. Eligibility
To apply for the MFPA, you must:
• Be a current MFAA member with CPD requirements met;
• Have at least 5 years of practising mortgage broking experience with a minimum 250 settled loans;
• Supply two professional endorsements (one from an aggregator) confirming your tenure and experience.
• Have completed the Diploma of Finance and Mortgage Broking Management; and
• Meet any additional criteria set by the MFAA for the MFPA Designation, as notified to you and specified on the MFAA website.
2. Application and payment
2.1. Your application is not complete until you have submitted all required information.
2.2. The MFAA will assess your application and notify you of the outcome.
2.3. The MFAA reserves the right to request additional information to support your application.
2.4. If your application is successful, you will receive course fee payment instructions.
2.5. If your application is unsuccessful, you may be able to re-apply.
2.6. The MFAA reserves the right to refuse to accept an application.
2.7. There is no application fee. There is however a course fee which is payable to the MFAA and not refundable once enrolment commences.
2.8. The fee is payable to MFAA. Once payment is received, the MFAA will forward your details to RMIT Online for enrolment in the MFP Program.
2.9. As part of your enrolment, you will be required to accept the relevant terms and conditions and privacy policy of RMIT Online. Access to the MFP Program is conditional on your agreement to those terms.
3. Access
Access to RMIT Online’s Learning Management System is maintained for 12 months, during which time there may be updates to course content.
4. Digital badges
4.1. The digital badges for completion of the MFP core course and elective courses are issued through the digital credential provider, Credly, and can be displayed on your website, email signature and professional profiles.
4.2. You will be required to accept Credly’s terms of use and privacy policy to claim your badge.
4.3. The badges do not expire.
4.4. The badge is linked to your verified details and cannot be transferred to another person.
5. MFPA logo
5.1. Upon successful completion of the MFP Program, you will be eligible to use the MFPA Designation logo (MFPA Logo). The MFPA Logo is a registered trademark and protected by copyright law. You are not required to use the MPFA Logo, but if you choose to use it, then your use of the MFPA Logo must comply with these Terms and Conditions.
5.2. You will receive a digital copy of the MFPA Logo. You must not transfer the MFPA Logo to any other person, or permit any other person to use or display it.
5.3. You must not use the MFPA Logo in a way that implies that any business, company or other entity is endorsed by the MFAA or has completed the MFP Program.
5.4 Grant of Licence
5.4.1. Subject to your successful completion of the MFP Program and your compliance with these Terms and Conditions, MFAA grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable licence to use the MFPA Logo in Australia for the purpose of advertising and promoting that you have successfully completed the MFP Program.
5.5 Compliance with Usage Guidelines
5.5.1. You must not alter, modify or adapt the MFPA Logo in any way. This includes, without limitation, changing its colours, proportions, layout, typography, wording or design elements, or co-branding by using the MFPA Logo within other graphics or marks.
5.5.2. You must provide to MFAA, as reasonably requested by MFAA from time to time, examples of materials distributed or published by you featuring the MFPA Logo.
5.6. Intellectual property rights
You:
(a) acknowledge that MFAA is the owner of the MFPA Logo and that nothing in these Terms and Conditions gives you any rights in the MFPA Logo in the nature of ownership;
(b) must promptly notify MFAA of any unauthorised or infringing use of the MFPA Logo of which you become aware;
(c) must not bring or threaten to bring proceedings against any third party for infringement of the MFPA Logo without MFAA’s prior written consent; and
(d) must provide to MFAA such information and assistance (other than financial assistance) as MFAA may reasonably require from time to time in connection with protecting or enforcing MFAA’s rights in the MFPA Logo.
6. Refunds
6.1. The MFAA complies with its obligations under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL).
6.2. Refunds are not available for change-of-mind once you have applied for the MFP Program and enrolment has commenced.
6.3. If you believe you are entitled to a refund under the ACL (for example, due to a fault or failure in the service provided), please contact the MFAA within 7 days of payment.
6.4. Any refund request will be assessed in accordance with the MFAA’s obligations under the ACL.
7. Professional conduct
7.1. You agree to:
• Provide truthful and accurate information during your application;
• Act with honesty, integrity and respect in all dealings with the MFAA;
• Maintain professional conduct and comply with the MFAA’s Code of Practice while holding the MFPA Designation.
7.2. If you breach these obligations, the MFAA may:
• Request that you address the breach within a specified timeframe;
• Suspend or cancel your licence to use the MFPA Designation;
• Withdraw your designation logo and any associated recognition.
No refund will be provided if your designation is suspended or cancelled due to a breach of these terms.
8. Intellectual property
8.1. Any resources provided to you as part of your MFPA application or ongoing learning remain the property of the MFAA or third-party owner.
8.2. You may not share, reproduce or distribute these materials without the written permission of the MFAA.
9. Disclaimer
9.1. The MFPA does not constitute financial or legal advice. You remain responsible for your professional conduct and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
9.2. The MFAA does not guarantee uninterrupted access to online systems but will work to resolve any issues promptly.
10. Privacy
Your personal information will be collected, stored and used in accordance with the MFAA’s Privacy Policy, available on our website. Information provided in the application form may be shared with RMIT Online to allow for enrolment in the MFP Program.
11. Use of MFPA Designation
11.1. Subject to your successful completion of the MFP Program, MFAA grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable licence to use the full designation title “Mortgage Finance Professional Australia” or the acronym “MFPA” to describe your individual professional qualifications (the full
designation and acronym and referred to in these terms as the “MFPA Designation”).
11.2. You may only use the MFPA Designation in a manner that is clear, accurate and not misleading.
11.3. The MFPA Designation may be used to identify your individual achievement, but must not be presented in a way that implies that any business, company or other entity is endorsed by the MFAA or is entitled to use the MFPA Designation.
11.4. You must not use the MFPA Designation in the registered name of a business, company or trading entity.
11.5. The MFAA reserves the right to direct you to modify or remove your use of the MFPA Designation if it determines that the usage is inappropriate or misleading.
12. Ongoing Requirements and Renewal
12.1. Your right to use the MFPA Designation is conditional on your continued MFAA membership, meeting your CPD obligations, and complying with any additional MFAA criteria (as referred to in clause 1 above).
12.2. The MFAA may request annual confirmation from you that these ongoing eligibility requirements have been met.
13. Suspension and Termination
13.1. The MFAA may suspend your licence to use the MFPA Designation and the MFPA Logo if:
• you fail to provide confirmation of eligibility within 7 days of being requested
to do so; or
• MFAA believes on reasonable grounds that you have failed to comply with your professional conduct obligations under the MFAA Code of Practice.
13.2. Your right to use the MFPA Designation and MFPA Logo may be reinstated if the non-compliance is addressed within a timeframe reasonably determined by the MFAA.
13.3. The MFAA may terminate your right to use the MFPA Designation and MFPA Logo where non-compliance is not resolved or where a serious breach of professional standards is identified.
13.4. Your rights to use the MFPA Designation and the MFPA Logo will automatically terminate if:
• your MFAA membership lapses or is cancelled, or
• you fail to maintain your annual CPD requirements.
13.5. If your rights to use the MFPA Designation and MFPA Logo are suspended or terminated, you must cease all use of the MFPA Logo, including by deleting the MFPA Logo from any website you own or control.
14. Audit and Compliance
14.1. The MFAA may, at its discretion, audit or review the eligibility and compliance status of any MFPA Designation holder at any time.
14.2. You agree to cooperate with all reasonable requests for information or documentation as part of any audit or review process.
14.3. Failure to comply with an audit request within the timeframe specified by the MFAA may result in the suspension or cancellation of your MFPA Designation.
15. Appeals
15.1. If your application for the MFPA Designation is declined, or if your right to use the MFPA Designation is suspended or cancelled, you may request a review of the decision by submitting a written appeal to the MFAA.
15.2. Appeals must be lodged within 30 days of receiving the notification of the decision.
15.3. The MFAA will review all appeals in accordance with its internal policies and will advise you of the outcome in writing.
